Do you need a piano to teach voice lessons?
Im going to get into teaching singing lessons but i dont have a piano…. do you think people really care because i have other good ways to teach but im not sure if people want the classic… piana shit lol…. what do you think
Yes, you do. You need to have a pitch reference in order to teach vocal lessons, not only that, you need the piano to actually play the music you are assisting your student in learning. Yes, people really care – how can you teach music when you can’t let the student hear it? How can you teach them to stay in tune when they have nothing to refer to?
I think you need to do some homework first before you try to teach someone. Do you know how to teach breath support? Singing from your head voice and chest voice? How will you get a student to not sing from their nose only? Do you know how to teach someone to take care of their vocal cords? How to extend their range? How to produce a quality tone? How to teach vibrato? How to listen to the piano in case you lose your pitch?
When people take vocal lessons, they START with the “classical” stuff before you move on to the “pop” stuff. If you go straight into “pop,” you can REALLY damage someone’s vocal cords because they don’t know the proper technique. Do you want to be responsible for a student permanently damaging their vocal cords?
Also, do you know what vocal method books are the best for your student?
Do your homework first, educate yourself first, THEN teach others.
