convert tenor trombone music to alto trombone?
I have a tenor trombone and would like to convert some of my music that i have n my computer to play on an alto trombone. how many steps up would I have to transpose.
Go down a minor 3rd (3 half steps) to correctly transpose it.
Transposing from (concert pitched) bass clef to an Eb instrument (alto or bari sax, for instance) may be the easiest transposition of them all. There’s a trick to it. Pretend that the bass clef is really a treble clef. (The lowest space is an F instead of an A, and so on.) Then add three naturals/sharps to the key signature. (F major in bass clef becomes D major in treble, and Eb major becomes C major.) Then, any accidentals which pertain to B, E, or A should be transposed up one half step – a flat accidental in bass clef should be interpreted as a natural, a natural should be interpreted as a sharp, and a sharp should be interpreted as a double sharp.
