what does it mean when an acoustic guitar has a ’solid top’?
selling my guitar and one of the questions on the auction is:
Do you know if it is a solid top?
what does that mean?? please try explain as best as you can

The sound board of an acoustic guitar (the top) can be made in different ways. It could be a single piece of wood (usually Spruce or cedar) or it could be a number of different pieces of wood laminated together.
Whist solid is better than laminated at a particular quality level, a low quality solid is not as good as a high quality laminate. You can get solid top guitars at less than £200, but some laminated top guitars can cost several thousand pounds.
Often a guitar builder gets the acoustic response that he wants by combining different types of wood, with different grain sizes.
