What year Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone is the best?
I know the earlier the better, but I THINK I heard someone mutter that the 1957 is the best year? What year should I look for when looking for one? Which years production had the best sound?

I have played a Mark VII for about 20 years now. I got it in high school and the only complaint that I ever had was that the middle D was flat. If i open the left side keys a bit then it fixes that problem. I always heard that the Mark VI was so much better so I sought one out. The one I found had a serial number of 160xxx which put it made around 1969. I was shocked to find that it sounded no different than my VII. I simply changed the mouthpiece I was using on the VII and I’m still happy. I would love to try any older model but have not found one as of yet to try. However I have heard that the reference 54 models that selmer has recently put out is a very simular horn to the VI. If I would you I would investigate a bit more before plopping down a bunch of money and be only somewhat happy. Best of luck!
