How do I know the value of my Tenor Saxophone?
I have a tenor saxophone given to me by a friend. Unfortunately, I play the Alto, so I am considering trading this in for something more useful to me.
My friend has since passed on, so I cannot ask her about the background of the instrument, which she actually had picked up secondhand herself. Also, I tried calling Selmer-Conn, and the representative I spoke to was completely stumped by my call, even tho I provided the serial number.
What information I actually have:
1) The Saxophone is in a case with “The Selmer Company” written on the side.
2) It has to be at least 10 years old.
3) Keys are Gold, with mother of pearl. A local guy at the music store told me that professional grade saxes tend to have gold keys and not silver, but I have no idea if this is true or not.
4) Serial number is #823126
Oh, I just checked, and the Sax is in fact Selmer USA, not Selmer Paris, if that makes a difference.
