How do I replace the head on my djembe?
I have a tunable Remo djembe with a synthetic-skin head. The head recently ripped and now I’m looking for a new synthetic-skin head. Where can I get a new skin and is it easy to install the head?
The easiest way to find a Remo head would be to head to www.remo.com choose ‘products’ then ‘ drum heads’ then ‘world percussion’. From there you can choose the type of head you want. They have a couple of choices. Click on find a dealer and it will help you find a place to order from. You could just navigate to ‘find a dealer but you wouldn’t be able to peruse the new types of skyns Remo has to offer. When ordering, you will need to know the size of your current head & which type you would like to replace it with, maybe even the name of the drum you have. As for tuning, I am not sure but they should include instructions. If not, I would install the head and tighten (slowly) the head using the lug nut tightening method until the sound is what you are looking for. Use a pencil to tap around the head to keep the sound even as you tune.
