Pernambuco Violin
What is your violin made out of?(be specific)?

my violin is made of himalayan spruce and maple(aged for 7 years). It has boxwood on it except for the finger board because my finger board is made of indian ebony.the bow is made from imported Pernambuco wood with an ebony frog, silver wound,and Mother of Pearl eyelet. Bow hair is Manchurian horse hair (known for its excellent playing durability.) It is also made from china. Its price was $220.95.
all that up there means what is YOUR violin made out of not what is a violin I clearly know what it is.
Ok now i am desperate okay? so who ever gives me or tells me what their violin looks like with some detail i shall vote you as best answer.(first come first serve)

Highly flamed spruce back,cedar top. Ebony fingerboard and pegs, redwood chin rest. Bow made of pernambuco, silver wound, silver tip, ebony frog, silver inlays.

Mother of pearl actually reduces the quality of a bow’s sound. It does not vibrate well.

My violin is a Wilhiem Ernst from 1874, German. Value about $23000 US. Bow is Heinel, German 1983, value $3400 US.

You must understand that the type of wood going into a violin is not the only determining factor. Sure some woods are better, but AGE is very important (older woods are better, if well kept), as well the age of the tree when harvested. Plus the closeness of the grain in the wood, which is often determined by the climate where the wood was from. Finally, humidity during construction has a big deal to do with the quality and sound of the instrument, as well as the skill of the maker and the laying of the varnish… vanish is incredibly important. number of coats, the maker’s personal mix, the combination of layers vs. sanding… etc. So many factors. Either way, most violins made in china right now are machine made garbage. Even the hand made ones are constructed for mass consumption. Your best bet if you are buying a new instrument is to go german, french, canadian, or american. There are some top quality makers who’s instruments need only a few years of setting up playing and adjusting before they are ready for orchestral playing. Oh yeah… the set up of the instrument, and the length of time it has been played while correctly set up are also important. Any other quesiton, please ask me.
