How can I make a new shirt look old/vintage?
I’ve seen and heard a lot of things about how to distress jeans but I can’t seem to find anything about shirts. I want to find a way to thin it out and kind of break down the fabric so it feels and looks worn in. Any suggestions?
Soak it in good strong tea. I do it all the time with a variety of different fabrics that I want to make look old. If you want the fibers to get soft, too, just add some liquid fabric softener to the soaking liquid. I usually take a whole box of tea bags, enough water to fill my plastic container and put it out in the sun for a day or so. You can also use the washing machine by putting the tea bags in a panty hose leg, tie it off, throw it in the washer a set on hot water soak cycle. Just don’t forget to remove the panty hose leg before you set the cycle to wash, spin and rinse. I also throw a tennis ball in the dryer to beat the clothes as they tumble.
