Nylon strings on a steel string guitar?
Hi guys, I just bought a new steel string acoustic guitar. But now I miss the sound of my old classical acoustic guitar with nylon strings. (which is broken now)
Are there any special heavy gauge (high tension) Nylon Strings for Steel String guitars?
Does anybody know any brands?
Please write answers, only if you know something about guitars. I don’t want any answers about the tension in the truss rod and etc. I read enough about them.
In general, nylon strings don’t work well at all on a steel string guitar. I’m thinking even heavy gauge, high tension nylon strings — IF they exist, which I don’t think they do — aren’t going to be enough to create a decent tone or volume with the heavier woods and bracing of a typical steel-string instrument.
Take a look at silk-n-steel strings, which are steel strings wrapped with silk fibers which cut down on the brilliance of the steel strings for a more mellow sound that might be more to your liking. Martin makes them.
