Mandolin Strings
how to replace a broken mandolin string?
I bought my first mandolin a few months ago, and I’ve been using the strings that came with it. Today I broke one of the E strings. When I buy new strings will I need to replace just the missing string, both E’s or all the strings on the mando? Not sure how important it is to have all the same strings.
Also, any advice for picking strings? I have a relatively inexpensive ($900) f-style mandolin, and I play an eclectic mix of music, from blues to bluegrass to jazz. As a violinist of a couple decades I’ve found the perfect strings for every situation (even some mixing of different string types often produces good results), but for the mandolin I’m not really sure where to start. I probably don’t need anything too fancy, mandolin is just a fun little hobby on the side. it looks like they’re pretty cheap too, $5-10 for a whole set.
All the strings are tuned the same. If you broke the E, then replace one string only. Eventually, the other E will break and then, just replace it or replace both.
I believe they come in sets of 2. you decide. Even is you mix strings, like I said, each string is tuned like its double.
