Rufus Wainwright (born July 22, 1973) is a Grammy-nominated, Canadian-American singer-songwriter. While the success of Rufus Wainwright was limited in sales, Wainwright reached #24 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart, and Rolling Stone named him 1998’s Best New Artist. The album was nominated four times by the Gay & Lesbian American Music Awards, an organization that provided the foundation for the recognition of the excellence of LGBT artists. Wainwright won the title of Best New Artist, while the album was nominated for Album of the Year and “April Fools” was nominated for Video of the Year and Best Pop Recording. The GLAAD Media Awards, created by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to recognize and honor the mainstream media for their fair and accurate representations of the LGBT community, awarded Rufus Wainwright as the year’s Outstanding Music Album. At the Juno Awards of 1999, Rufus Wainwright won the award for Best Alternative Album.

He has composed a musical adaptation of Shakespeare Sonnets with noted Director Robert Wilson at the Berliner Ensemble which premiered in April of 2009 and continues to play to sold out houses.Wainwright has released eight albums and two DVDs to date, and has appeared on numerous soundtracks and compilations, as well as collaborating with artists like Elton John, David Byrne, Rosanne Cash and Keane. His newest album titled, All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu, is will be released this year in March/April 2010. Rufus’ last album was a live recording from his Release The Stars tour titled, Milwaukee At Last!!!. His album prior to that, Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall, was nominated for a Grammy. It was released concurrently with a live DVD (Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! Does Judy! Judy! Judy!) capturing his celebrated Judy Garland tribute performance at the London Palladium in 2007. His previous album, Release The Stars, went Gold in Canada and the U.K.
