Does anyone have a Russian Blue cat?

I live in Huntington, WV. I used to have a Russian Blue cat named Church. I loved her so much, but she died. Does anyone out there breed them. I have looked everywhere and I can’t find them.

I’m sorry about your loss. Russian Blues are actually fairly common in the U.S. If you go to a pet store, they will have “Cat Fancy” magazine, and they also have an annual magazine called “Kittens.” They both list tons of breeders. I’m sure there are some in the D.C. area or in Pennsylvania, or maybe even in W.V. Many breeders are willing to hand-deliver a kitty to you, but you must pay in advance. Kittens usually are $500+ but an older cat (4 years old or more) is usually cheaper, in the $200-$300 range. Cat breeders generally give you a health guarantee, and the kitty will likely come to you fully vaccinated. They will probably make you sign a contract promising to care for the cat for the rest of it’s life, and will give you conditions regarding future veterinary care, what to do if you can no longer care for the cat, etc. Many catteries have these contracts available on-line, and they may also have pictures of their available kitties.

Have you considered a Korat? They are wonderful, too! They look similar to Russians, but have single coats (NO brushing except to love up your kitty!) and are smaller and more muscular. Just an idea. I have one Korat and three Tonkinese (a great breed, too, similar in size and temperament to a Blue), and they are all wonderful. I’m biased, I admit!
