Whats the best way to have my double bass drum pedal set up?
Ive had a double bass pedal on my kit for about a year now, All i want to know is how can i make the most of it. i want it set so i can faster on it and i need to know stuff like
How tight should the springs be?
how far away should the beaters be from the drum head?

I spent ages setting up my bass pedal recently, so I can tell you how I went about it.
I set my springs quite tight, and having an Iron Cobra with the return spring, I set that to max to. I find that the tighter the springs, the more likely the pedal is to return to the ’start’ position so I can press it again. With slack springs, I found the pedal slapped a bit. It wasn’t fully returned by the time I was depressing it for a quick double, so my foot would be up then slap down on the returning pedal.
I chose the beater-from-drum-head distance by thinking about how far the travel in the pedal should be based on comfort and speed. Slack off the beater head so it can swing freely. Rest it against th drum head then lightly press the pedal until it feels right, then tighten the beater, Fine tune as necessary.
This was how I ‘tuned’ my pedal based on my style and preferences. It may be different for you, but hopefully I’ve given you something to think about or somewhere to start.
