Cello Strings
New cello…..strings keeps sliding out of tune?

I bought a full size cello recently. The strings re on but it goes out of tue very easily. The top pegs slip very eaily and now i’m nervous when tuning in case the pegs suddenly start spinning and the string comes undone.I heard it’s just becasue the strings need to be streched……
How long will this go on for until i can play with just using the fine tuners?

Yes, it’s mostly because the strings are new. New strings aren’t used to being stretched to the tension they are at while on the cello. It is almost impossible for the pegs to spin many revolutions and make the strings become undone. Occassionally, it might slip a little and go out of tune, but I have yet to see a string become undone due to a slip in the pegs. Try shoving the pegs in further, as they may be too far out, and thus too loose. If the same problem occurs for over 1 week without any improvements, you might want to go out and purchase peg solution (it’s available in string instrument stores as well as online; i.e. Amazon.com). Peg solution will make your pegs stick better. You will never only have to use the fine tuners, and I strongly suggest that you become accustomed to using both pegs and fine tuners. Relying solely on fine tuners is a terrible habit, and you never know when you need to mess around with the pegs again.
