How do I replace a cello string?
I was tuning my A-string and it broke at the top near the nut. I went to the store and dropped $40 on a new string. When I got home, I immediately tried to replace it. I stuck the string in the hole in the nut ~ 1 cm, then wound it until it was about at G, then proceeded to use my normal tuning method to get it to A. well, just as I was turning the peg to get to where A would be, it broke!!! And I was like ‘#@%*! not AGAIN’ I now have a new string (this time $30), and don’t want to do this again – please tell me where I went wrong!!! If you have done this, please explain how do I put the string on correctly? I’m going through practice withdrawals!
are you sure they gave you the proper string? often when you break a string it throws the other strings out of tune. make sure your other stings are in tune before you put the new on
