Broadway Songs???
Im trying out for musical theater at my school and i have to try out with a broadway song, does anyone know a good broadway song to try out with would be?

Anna D. is right… NO director wants to hear anything from currently popular shows. Hairspray, Wicked, Spring Awakening, Rent, etc… stay away from them!! They are oversung and don’t demonstrate any knowledge of Musical Theater beyond the basics. Depending on your vocal part, listen around on iTunes and see what you can find there. I’ll just give a few different song selections from different vocal parts to get you started.
Soprano- I Have Confidence from The Sound of Music, I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady, Home from Beauty and the Beast
Mezzo- My Strongest Suit from Aida (belty), Jimmy from Thoroughly Modern Millie, Diva’s Lament from Spamalot, Another Suitcase in Another Hall from Evita
Alto- The Ladies Who Lunch from Company (need to be a strong actress), I Know the Truth from Aida, Still Hurting from The Last Five Years
If you can’t quite pick any of these, just keep searching around for ones like them. Pick a song you are comfortable singing and acting, because sometimes in Musical Theater, you forget that a big part of it is acting while you sing. And stay away from those popular shows! They won’t serve you well.
