Boom Stand

In capsizing in sailing, how to stop the boom falling on you?
im 12 and small and dont like the thought of getting trapped under a sail and yesterday had a lucky escape, we have helmets, but not gd ones?
i cant stand beside the mast because my friend is there, and they are toppers by the way!!!!
thanks!
While sailing you must take care to stay clear of the boom when making turns, this is called jibing, pronounced “Jybing” but if the boat starts to capsize you should just try to predict the movement of the boat, sail and boom, and place yourself in an position that will allow you to remain clear of the sail and boom during the event. Not always easy to do. You will always have a PFD, (Personal Flotation Device) on and that should help you stay near the surface and push the sailcloth to the surface, should you get stuck below it. If not, swim sideways and down and to the edge and out from under it. If you’re helmet is not sufficient for the task don’t use it. Get a better one. There are always risks in anything in the water. but you must just calculate all that you can and prepare for the contingencies that you can predict. Experience will help, so don.t be afraid to consult an instructor.Asking here is a good start.
