Hold the strings down as tightly as possible.
Do not accidentally mute any of the notes by letting one finger gently touch the wrong string.
Press the string close to the fret.
Don’t strum too hard. Mix it up a bit. Alternate strumming between the back of your fingernail, tip of thumb and other fingers.
Learn to hammer on and pull off notes.
Learn to pluck fewer than all 6 strings in different combinations.
Vary the volume of your playing to get good dynamics.
Make sure you are in tune. Use a tuner, if you don’t have a good ear.
Repair any broken, buzzing parts. Have a professional help.
Make sure the nut and bridge are in good condition and adjusted so the strings are harmonically in tune.
Don’t cover the sound hold.
Be sure the neck isn’t warped.
Don’t only use new strings, try strings of different material composition and weights. Also experiment with different types of picks.
A Martin guitar is a good instrument. It should sound nice, if it’s in good condition.
